~ Netty
Time to get serious...
Am very pleased to say it’s time to get down to business! Today at 1:00 am we are heading out of Everest base camp, through the Khumbu icefall, past camp 1 and on to camp 2. We will spend four nights there, then move up to camp three, spend one night there, then return to camp 2 for a night, then back down base camp.
I cannot tell you how ready many of us are to get going, and will keep as...

The Waiting Game...
So we have been back at Everest base camp for a few days now, and should have started moving up through the Khumbu icefall towards Camp 1 already. Unfortunately, there is some bad weather up high, and our sherpas are unable to push ropes farther up the mountain at this time. This also affects the icefall a bit, so we are in a holding pattern for a few days while we track the weather. We may be...
Bumping into legends...
Attended a little gathering in the white pod last night back here at Everest base camp. Conrad Anker and Cory Richards were in attendance (their current expedition to Everest seeks to repeat the historic climb of the 1963 National Geographic-sponsored American Mount Everest Expedition, almost 50 years after that first American ascent to the summit, and is sponsored by The North Face and National...

Lobuje Acclimatization Updates from The Joe...
Been having a hard time with communications here. Have called and texted a few notes to Annette when I can get through, here are some updates on our status:
Monday 4/16: departed Lobuje base camp and arrived at Lobuje camp 1 in just under 2 hours. The trail is a bit tough, for those of you that have hiked Devil’s Lake that’s how it was, and doing that in the huge Everest boots is...

This link is from one of the trekker’s on our trip, Alex. He and his mother did the base camp trek and will be heading home soon. His father, John, is continuing on the Everest expedition with us. The photo is also his, a great shot of the “white pod” and some of our base camp kitchen/other tents.

neelymichaelis asked: Hey Joe! I have to ask the most important question that everyone needs to know. Where does the poop go? I assume everything has to be packed out. We think about you every day and are sending good vibes. Andy and Karen expect a full moon at the summit. Seriously. Love to you.
Reading everything!!!
Joe, I start my day every morning reading about your climb and how it’s progressing. The we’re all pulling for you to be sucessful and can’t wait for you & Annette to come over and tell us the entire story over a LOT of wine!!!
God Speed my friend and stay safe!

Rest Day + Training Hike
Wednesday 4/11 started as a boring rest day (again). I had a checkup with the doctor which went fine, and got in a shower which was interesting. We took a hike to the base of an ice fall which was amazing! Then, we ended the day with an amazing first time ever presentation Russel gave on his own “Experience” as he called it. This was a talk on his journey to where he is and what...
Joe,
I remember when you first started climbing and when you taught me to repel at Devils Head. So crazy to think about how far you have come. You are a natural.
Each moment you are a step closer to your dream. I’m so proud of you. You are an inspiration to me and everyone.
Thanks for being an awesome big brother.
Enjoy the rest of your journey!
Love,
Kristy
You're amazing!
Hi Joe,
I finally had a chance to catch up on the expedition, and all I can say is WOW! You have done some amazing things in your short life, but this takes the cake! I am SOOOO proud to be your cousin! But mostly just proud of you! Mark and I wish you and your team a safe journey first, but hope that you have the time of your life! I know it’s something I will never do, but I sure...
Settled at Everest Base Camp
We are on day two of four rest days at Everest Base Camp. I have a little bit of a sore throat from the gunk I had been swallowing along the way, but hoping it’s getting better. Overall I’m feeling very strong and my breathing is good, so very happy about that. I am in my own tent here and although it’s around freezing outside, this gear is so burly that I was actually too warm...
pwhitdog asked: Hey Joe do you remember how you started climbing? I do, we were following Tim to his work in Glen Ellyn and you were climbing those walls like a spider monkey. It's amazing how life has continued from that simple path. Good luck Joey and I'm following every post!
Great Bio!
That’s a terrific bio in today’s Everest Newsletter that landed in my email box. I’m keeping the itinerary you gave me on my desk at work and follow the progress each day. The updates are great and the adventure looks awesome! ~Jay

Happy Easter! Sounds like you’re doing well - stay strong. Had a beautiful couple of days at the Gunks. The training seems to be paying off - felt strong and got up some harder stuff.
Be well!

Arrival at Everest Base Camp: 5,267m, 17,280ft
Today we arrived at Everest Base Camp for the first time. The hike in was good, I balanced my speed about medium for me and I seem to be feeling better, many others aren’t feeling so good so I’m happy I’m doing ok. I’m just happy to be here. We have moved into tents in this - what seems like - huge city! All my gear made it here, but now I have to remember where and what...

Good progress to Pheriche (4,240m, 13,911ft)
Today I completed one of the longer days to Pheriche per the schedule and took only a few hours in total. Of course the schedule divided the hike into three parts so it was no worries for me - I stayed with the front of the pack on the first two parts with no problem. I did this even though I got a stuffy nose attack from all the dust in my room last night. I wound up changing rooms in the middle...
